This article is packed full of lots and hints and tips for marketing your salon. There are a number of simple marketing actions you can take to generate more business for your salon.

We have put together some great salon marketing ideas that can produce super results as long as you are consistent.

Social Media

If you are a fan of the social media platforms that are available then they really can work wonders for your business. By following a schedule of posts and a few simple tips you’d wished you started sooner.

  • Invest in good lighting to take shots of your work
  • Always link your posts to either your salon website or your online booking portal
  • Add a call to action on each post so your readers know what they need to do
  • Complete your Insta bio, add your contact details plus relevant links and remember to have your Instagram and Facebook as business pages too
  • Keep if real and fun, take your clients along for the ride and post fun videos and photos of you and your team on what you get up to on a daily basis

Social media can feel very daunting and overwhelming when you start, make sure you do not take on too much at the beginning. Choose just 2 to 3 social platforms for your salon marketing journey, it is important to get those nailed and producing results before moving on to others.

Website

Create or refresh your salon website. You may have a beautiful salon, with the latest decor and furniture but if your online presence and salon website is not up to scratch and looking a bit cheap you may lose clients. Make sure your website shows off your 5* client experience you have worked hard for.

Create a video tour of your salon to share and show off, there is nothing better than finding out a little bit about the salon you are going to visit before your actual appointment day. This will be great for those that are a little hesitant and need some reassurance you are the right salon for them.

Team photos – sharing photos of your team and a little intro on each one is a lovely way to show off. Your team are a huge part of your salon, without them you would not be able have your salon doors open. So make sure you make the visible within your salon marketing.

Listing your services with prices is also a great way of letting clients know what you do and for marketing your salon.

Online Reviews

This is another great marketing idea for your salon, online reviews have exploded in recent years. Here are some stats about user behaviour on websites:

  • 95% of customers read reviews before making a choice.
  • 72% of customers will not make a purchase until they have read reviews.
  • 91% of customers aged between 18 – 34 yrs trust online reviews as much as recommendations from a friend.

Linking your salon software to an online review platform and asking your clients to leave a review after their appointment via SMS or email is a really great way to receive lots of true and honest feedback.

Collaborate with local businesses

Form partnerships with other local businesses creating similar offerings with each other is a great way of generating new business.

You may have seen offerings on the back of supermarket receipts or on cinema tickets as an example, this is exactly what you can do and offer your clients but for hair services with another business.

Host Seasonal Events

Jumping on seasonal events can give your salon a good boost when you need it most. From organising shopping events and creating more retail awareness to promoting gift cards and seasonal packages.

Below are a few seasonal events you could plan throughout the year:

  • New Year
  • Valentine’s Day
  • Easter
  • Mother’s Day
  • Father’s Day
  • Summer fun
  • Halloween
  • Christmas

Salon Influencer / Ambassador

I am sure you have seen the internet go crazy with influencers all over the world, they create awareness and generate you business for perhaps a credit or complimentary service in return. This is a great salon marketing idea you should take advantage of.

This is such a great option for the hair and beauty industry as it is so visual. To begin with try not to aim too high, search for local influencers to start with, they may also be at the early stages of growing their following so their offering will not be as high as say ‘Mrs Hinch’ or ‘Kim Kardashian’.

Who knows, you may even already have some influencers coming to your salon, so if you do make sure you reach out to them and propose the idea and see where it leads.

Online Ads

Online Facebook Ads and Google Ads are not only a great way to get new clients into your salon, they are also excellent at creating brand awareness.

Try not to get confused with boosting Facebook posts with having Facebook ads, these are two completely separate things. Facebook posts will generate more likes, comments and potentially shares from those who like your page and their contacts, whereas a Facebook Ad will spread your message to users that may not necessarily know about you yet.

Having Google Ads for your salon will again create new clients coming into your salon who are looking for salons in a specific area. The first options that show in Google search are dedicated to paid ads, unfortunately regardless of how good your website looks and your SEO is you still won’t beat the very top paid search results without Google Ads.

Shop Window

Your show window is your sales pitch, this is a great way to show off and go all out with an eye catching display. You could add posters of your latest promotions, advertise a new product range or a new team member going your salon.

Do you have a website or online booking portal to advertise? Creating a QR code for your salon window is a great way to market your online bookings. Clients simply scan the QR code and are taken directly to your website.

Perhaps you are an Eco salon or use Vegan products, again this is another great place to show off  your USP’s.

SMS / Eblasts

With all the salon marketing ideas available to you, this is one of the top ones you should take advantage of. It is the quickest way to reach out to your clients and potentially generate new clients as well.

96% of SMS’s sent are ready within 30 seconds of receiving them, this is down to us having a mobile device or tablet at our fingertips almost all the time. The urge of checking the message and see who it is from is something we just can not resist.

  • Ask for a review after an appointment – although this is aimed towards existing clients, the more reviews you can create the better. As we mentioned just above many of us tend to online buy or take action if we have read a positive review on a business.

Refer a friend scheme

Word of mouth is so powerful it can make or break any business. Your focus should be on getting new clients into your salon, recent statistics show that 10% of your business each week needs to be new to continue a healthy growth.

Many salons have more than likely at some point used a ‘refer a friend scheme’ this is great for existing clients to share with their friends and family who have not been to the salon before and welcome them to the salon with an offer not to miss. Your salon software should be able to track and monitor this system for you.

Take a look in more detail at GAS (Guest Attraction System).
