From 14th September 2019 new rules are coming in to place for online purchases which requires strong customer authentication (SCA). Businesses will have to verify customers purchases through two factor authentication. Without this authentication many banks will decline payments.
What does this mean to you as a Salon? At Salon iQ we have done the work behind the scenes to ensure any services booked online via your website whether that is deposits being processed for services and products or even gift cards, you do not have to do anything. Salon iQ and Stripe have implemented the changes that are needed already.
What does this mean to your clients? Your clients will need to give their bank authorisation to enable 2 factor authentication, we have noticed some banks are automatically opting their customers in, however many of your clients will need to contact their banks to allow them to make online purchases not just with you but anywhere they shop online even if they are already an online shopper.
Please note – Your clients may not need to go through the SCA (Strong Customer Authentication) every single time they pay for something online as it is based on random selection as an extra security measure now and again.
What do you do if a client can not pay a deposit when making an appointment? You must advise your client to contact their bank and ensure they have opted-in to the new two factor authentication. This is not something you as a salon owner or us as your software provider can do for your client due to GDPR.
